.m. this meeting last night came after word of a potential deal and a pretty big deal after word of a potential deal really stole the headlines yesterday afternoon and overnight. this would be, as i said, a pretty big deal. $3 trillion in deficit savings over ten years. and we only have a rough sketch of it. what is interesting, don, as you said, the white house is shooting this down. they say there is no deal. we heard jay carney shoot this down yesterday. the speaker's office is saying there is no deal but we have from congressional sources who are speaking on anonymity there is a framework. at 10:00 a.m. we will detail what the sources are telling us is in this potential agreement. >> only 10 1/2 days. thank you very much. we will be coming back to you throughout the day. >>> among an already crowded field of gop presidential candidates, a new cnn/orc poll suggests that texas governor rick perry may want to throw his hat into the ring too. mr. paul steinhauser joins us live from washington. >> rick perry is thinking about jumping into the white house and could do it. stay tuned on that. the

get to be big, big problems. >> so those are some of the warnings signs, or are there warning signs that you are taking in -- that you are just too hot? >> i did get all the way to eventually the first stages of heat stroke one time in my life in nebraska when i was working outside. the first thing you need to do, obviously, drink all the water you can. if you feel crap thats in your legs or stomach, that means you are not getting that water, and you will feel not first but cramps. that's the first step. and then after that, if you feel like you can't just stand up anymore -- when i got to the point, i could not drive my car home. somebody had to drive me home because i could not function. my brain would not function at all. at 104 degrees you're in a heat stroke, and you need medical attention because you are vomiting. if you start to vomit, you need to get out of the heat and get your body temperature taken down. if you are not sweating anymore, you need to go to the hospital. >> what about the fact that it got so hot so fast? has that made a difference in a case like this? >> no

, this is a debate about our economy, and frankly is a big debate about the future of our country. until recently, the president was demanding that the congress increased the debt limit with no strings attached. as a matter of fact, the treasury secretary sent me a letter two days after we were sworn in demanding that we give him a clean increase in the debt limit. i responded and told the treasury secretary at the american people would not tolerate a clean increase in the debt ceiling unless there was serious spending cuts attached and will reform in the way we spent the american people's money. i went to new york city in may and gave a speech to the new york economic club where i outlined the challenges we were facing and i made it clear that we would not increase the debt limit for the cuts that exceeded that increase in the debt limit and that there would be no new taxes and that there would be serious spending reforms put in place. it is time to get serious. i'm confident that the leaders here in the congress can act, the white house will give serious, we will. >> your own aides say that the

here about a potential big deal, something that would reduce the deficit by $3 to $4 trillion over the next decade and under that plan you would see some cuts to discretionary spending right up front. then changes to entitlements, things like medicare and social security kick in a little later and also some changes to the tax code that would kick in later, things like rolling back tax breaks for wealthy americans and large corporations. now we're also hearing about the possibility of getting rid of that deduction for home mortgage interest. here's what's interesting, thomas. to your point earlier in the week, republicans were really upset over the possibility of changing the tax code, potentially increasing taxes. well, yesterday it was democrats who were concerned about the possibility that the president was maybe giving in on entitlement reform and not insisting on enough changes to the tax code. white house officials insist that is not the case. they say the president is dedicated to making sure that there is new revenue from changes to the tax code. so that's where we stand rig
